Starting December 2nd, Pete Gladden will be offering his Excel in Cycling Classes in our box.
From Pete:
This is an indoor program I’ve personally developed over the past 5 years. It progresses over the 4-month period to gradually introduce more complex exercises, drills and intensity levels as the in-season approaches. You will absolutely build up your skill level as well as your fitness level as the weeks go by. This class will also give you the opportunity to train with your peers – road cyclists, duathletes and triathletes, mt bikers and recreational riders – no matter what your ability level, in a very motivating environment. I will caution you though that these are not spin, studio, or any other type of fitness club group workouts run by spin instructors and/or hammerheads who have no concept of the “art of cycling,” – if you want to ride as well as a good, technically proficient road cyclist then you must train like one! Monday, Wednesday and Saturday workouts are composed of 2 hrs of very vigorous cycling on your own bike, mounted on a wind, mag or fluid trainer, with a substantial focus on: form, cadence, force and technique. I will participate in the Wednesday and Saturday workouts, and coach off of the bike on Mondays.
The Excel In Cycling workouts are intended for people who want to become SMART cyclists, whether recreational or competitive. We will talk extensively about training in specific heart rate zones, and how to compare these zones with RPE – the rating of perceived exertion. Included in the workout is music piped out on a professional sound system and DVD cycling video footage projected on a 15-foot screen. Also provided is cold water and gatorade. Please bring your own towels and some sort of carbo supplement like jells or bars.
For those of you who have had previous experience with these Wed/Sat indoor workouts, Monday nights will be the same 2-hour workout format, this so people who may not be able to attend a Wed/Sat workout will have another choice in the week. For those of you who are “newbie” cyclists, on Monday nights I will not be participating in the workout, and will be coaching from the floor so I can devote much more attention to you. For the newbies group, the Monday workouts will progress from about 1.5 hrs in length to the two full hours in length over the course of the indoor program. This is accomplished through shorter drill and main set volume than the more experienced riders train at.
First workout for the 09′-010′ season is on Wednesday, December 2. Monday and Wednesday classes will start promptly at 6:30 PM and end at 8:30 PM. Saturday classes will start at 12 noon and end at 2 PM. Cost of a single Mon/Wed/Sat workout is $10.00, cash or check only. For a family of three a single workout is $24.00. Current clients who I coach receive a discount on single and multi-day passes. Windtrainers are available to rent for $5.00/workout (please reserve 24 hours ahead of time). Punch passes can be purchased for any combination of Monday, Wednesday and Saturdays. Multi-day Pass package is $150.00 for 18 workouts.
